Ugh
If Stephen A Smith is the new face of ESPN and the type of sports reporting that they want to go with, it's no wonder that I don't watch anything on ESPN other than Around the Horn and Pardon the Interruption. I'm sick of Smith's yelling. I'm sick of Stuart Scott's slanglish. I'm sick of surly Dan Patrick. SportsCenter is horrible these days. It's a far cry from the show that my friends and I raved about in the 90s. That was when you could watch SportsCenter 3 times in a row because it was so entertaining. These days, watching it once is a chore. It's not worthy of anything more than background noise. Also, as much as I disliked the change at first, I'm glad that Max Kellerman is gone from Around the Horn. Now that he's settled in, Stat Boy does a much better job than Kellerman ever did. They've even got Michael Holley back on the show every now and then.

I co-sign with this post 100%.

Bring back Kilborn. Bring back Olberman.

Back when Olberman and Patrick were teamed up, the show was awesome. I can't watch it anymore though.

I'm signing on to this too.

We should start a movement.

Bring back oldschool SportsCenter.

Instead we have Stuart "Boo-yow" Scott, Stephen "A is for Asshole" Smith and Dream Job rejects.

Consider this the first signature on the Offy Coalition for Quality SportsCenter Petition.

I'm waiting to see what they do with Dee Brown. He seems like an intelligent and well-spoken guy so I'm sure that he won't last for long.

What ever happened to that first Dream Job winner?

I think Mike Hall was his name. I remember he won, and then I never heard from him again...

I think that he hosted Around the Horn once or twice right when Kellerman left before they tried out Stat Boy and gave him the job. I also saw him once or twice on the 6 PM SportsCenter right after he won, but that's it.

Yeah, SC has gone way down in entertainment value. Even way back in the day, when I didn't like sports, I found it much more entertaining than I do now. Kenny Mayne's occasional spots still amuse me, and Trey Wingo is almost not annoying, but Stuart needs a Valium, Dan Patrick needs a Prozac, and everyone else needs to grow some personality. And SAS and Skip Bayless need to be picked up by Superman and thrown into the Sun.

Also, I kind of like Stump the Schwab, just to test out my own sports knowledge.

Stephen A. Smith is SO on the list of people who should be sent far far away from anything where anyone ever has to hear him try to speak. Can he ever not yell?

Also, even attempting to watch SportsCenter these days makes me SO nostalgic for the old version. It's just AWFUL. Word on being able to watch it 3 times in a row back in the day. We used to do that all the time. And that girl who does the weekends? I completely support female sports anchors, but she's like a walking, talking example of why people think women can't do sports journalism/broadcasting.

hi, jenne sent me over here because we were talking about PIVEN and mentioned your bday post.

Yelling is Smith's gimmick. As opposed to people like Peter Gammons whose gimmick is great writing and unmatched baseball knowledge.
